Mosquito repellents are substances or products designed to deter mosquitoes from biting humans or animals. They work by either masking the human scent or creating a barrier that repels mosquitoes. Here are some common types of mosquito repellents:

DEET: DEET (N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide) is one of the most widely used and effective mosquito repellents. It can be found in various concentrations in repellent products and provides long-lasting protection.

Picaridin: Picaridin is another effective repellent that provides protection against mosquitoes. It is odorless, non-greasy, and does not damage plastics or synthetic materials.

Oil of lemon eucalyptus: Oil of lemon eucalyptus is a natural-based repellent derived from the lemon eucalyptus plant. It contains a compound called PMD (p-menthane-3,8-diol) that has been shown to be effective against mosquitoes.

IR3535: IR3535 is an ingredient used in mosquito repellents that provides protection against mosquitoes, ticks, and other insects. It has a low toxicity profile and is considered safe for use.

Natural repellents: Various natural substances, such as citronella oil, lavender oil, and neem oil, are often used as mosquito repellents. While these may provide some level of protection, their effectiveness can vary, and they may not offer long-lasting or reliable results compared to synthetic repellents.

When using mosquito repellents, it’s important to follow the instructions on the product label and take necessary precautions. Apply the repellent evenly to exposed skin or clothing, and reapply as directed. It’s also a good idea to wear long sleeves, pants, and socks to minimize exposed skin and reduce the risk of mosquito bites.
